Joseph Avery DIRECTOR / VISUAL DESIGN / BATTERY ARRANGER Joseph Avery is a band director, percussion educator, active composer/designer and drill writer out of the Central Valley California area, specializing in battery technique and percussion performance. Receiving his degree in Music Education from California State University, Fresno, he is an alum of the Bulldog Marching Band, Red Wave’s parent program. Joseph is currently the Associate Director of Bands for Buchanan Educational Center, which includes Buchanan High School and Alta Sierra Intermediate (Clovis, Ca.). He is also the percussion caption head and arranger for Fresno State’s Bulldog Marching Band. Joseph has worked with, choreographed, written, designed, consulted, and taught for a multitude of high schools and middle schools on the West Coast since 2007. Joseph’s performance in the percussion community has taken place both indoors and outdoors with Carolina Crown, Sacramento Freelancers Indoor, and the Concord Blue Devils organization. He proudly endorses Innovative Percussion, Remo, Yamaha, and Zildjian as an educational artist. He has received his BS in Business Administration from California State University, Fresno. Outside of the marching arts, Albert focuses on community management and social media engagement, along with UI/UX design. In the marching arts, he is a front ensemble arranger, instructor and electronic designer for Clovis High School. In addition, he is the sound engineer and front ensemble arranger for the Fresno State Bulldog Marching band, along with being the front ensemble arranger, sound designer, and media manager for Red Wave Indoor, Fresno State's independent open percussion ensemble in the Central Valley. This is Albert’s third year working with Red Wave Indoor. He continues to write for various ensembles in the Central Valley, along with being a consultant specializing in amplification, electronics, and sound design for the marching arts. He marched Valley Independent Percussion in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016. In 2015 and 2016 Ray served as the tenor drums section leader. Ray also marched Blue Devils B Corps in the summers of 2015 and as section leader in 2016. For his last season in 2017, Ray marched in Bakersfield College Indoor. Ray has taught throughout the central valley for the past 8 years for schools that include Live Oak Middle School, Exeter Union High School, Buchanan High School, Glacier Point Middle School, Reyburn Intermediate, Central High School, and Clovis East High School. He also is currently on staff at Blue Devils B as their quad tech. Ray is currently a student at Fresno City College majoring in Music Education and Mathematics. He also teaches at Clovis High School three years and running. Throughout the last 2 years of high school he also competed with the Independent Open group Valley Independent Percussion as well as DCI Open Class Corps, Blue Devils B. He became section leader of both bass lines at the age of 17 and helped the group achieve their first PIO Bronze Medal and 4th DCI Open Class Championship. After graduating from high school Mr. Cervantez would travel every weekend to southern California to perform with the 6 time World Champion PIW group - Riverside City College. Kheffy spent 4 years at RCC helping win a championship title in 2015, as well as 2018. He spent his last two years (2018, 2019) as part of the leadership team helping guide the group to two successful seasons. Kheffy also performed one season with the 19 time world champions, the Concord Blue Devils in their 2017 production "Metamorph". He is currently a music teacher in Lemoore, California as an elementary band and choir teacher. He obtained his music education degree from Fresno State University, his teaching credential from Fresno Pacific University, and is on course to receive his Masters of Arts in teaching at Fresno Pacific University in the Spring of 2020. Marcus has taught and/or choreographed for numerous indoor and outdoor ensembles in the Central Valley, including Lemoore HS, Golden West HS, Bullard HS, Edison HS, Washington Union HS, Clovis HS, Buchanan HS, Kingsburg HS, Clovis North HS, and Valley Independent Percussion. He was a part of the teaching staff for the inaugural Red Wave season (and the subsequent seasons), and currently choreographs for Victor J. Andrew HS percussion of Tinley Park, Illinois. As an instructor for the United Spirit Association drum major staff, Marcus taught military and mace spinning, field conducting, and leadership to middle school and high school students in California, Oregon, and Washington from 2001-2006. He also served as the drum major choreographer for the USA All Star Drum Majors for the London New Year’s Day Parade in 2006. Further drum major experience includes Lemoore HS (1998-2000), Fresno State (2002-2004), and Fever Drum and Bugle Corps (2005). Outside of the band world, Marcus serves as the Communications Director at South Valley Community Church in Lemoore, and operates social media for the church. He began his marching career in the soprano line of the Concord Blue Devil B Corps in 1989, moving to the World Champion A Corps in 1991 through 1993. He returned to the Blue Team in 1997 where he is currently a visual instructor and drill writer. His affinity for mathematical problems can be traced through his BS from Fresno State in Math. Jaime earned a teaching credential from Cal State Hayward and was a math teacher at James Logan High School before he decided to give it up for the fame and fortune of drill writing. Jaime is the visual caption head and designer for several award winning high schools in BOA and WBA, as well as independent non-profit organizations in DCI and WGI. He has also served on the DCI Task Force. Currently, he has the pleasure of working with the Soka Renaissance Vanguard from Tokyo, Japan. Spencer is currently the Percussion Caption Head for the Clovis High Area which includes Clovis High School, Clark Intermediate School, and The Blue Diddles Elementary Percussion Academy. He marched Valley Independent Percussion in 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016. In 2015 and 2016 Ray served as the tenor drums section leader. Ray also marched Blue Devils B Corps in the summers of 2015 and as section leader in 2016. For his last season in 2017, Ray marched in Bakersfield College Indoor. He is currently a music teacher in Lemoore, California as an elementary band and choir teacher. He obtained his music education degree from Fresno State University, and his teaching credential - as well as his masters of arts in education - from Fresno Pacific University. Marcus has taught and/or choreographed for numerous indoor and outdoor ensembles in the Central Valley, including Lemoore HS, Liberty Middle School, Golden West HS, Bullard HS, Edison HS, Washington Union HS, Clovis HS, Clovis East HS, Buchanan HS, Kingsburg HS, Clovis North HS, and Valley Independent Percussion. He was a part of the teaching staff for the inaugural Red Wave season (and the subsequent seasons). Beyond California, Marcus has choreographed for Victor J. Andrew HS indoor percussion of Tinley Park, Illinois, and Leonardtown High School of Leonardtown, Maryland. As an instructor for the United Spirit Association drum major staff, Marcus taught military and mace spinning, field conducting, and leadership to middle school and high school students in California, Oregon, and Washington from 2001-2006. He also served as the drum major choreographer for the USA All Star Drum Majors for the London New Year’s Day Parade in 2006. While there, they were apart of an intensive studio studying concert and indoor percussion. He began his marching career in the soprano line of the Concord Blue Devil B Corps in 1989, moving to the World Champion A Corps in 1991 through 1993. He returned to the Blue Team in 1997 where he is currently a visual instructor and drill writer. His affinity for mathematical problems can be traced through his BS from Fresno State in Math. Jaime earned a teaching credential from Cal State Hayward and was a math teacher at James Logan High School before he decided to give it up for the fame and fortune of drill writing. Jaime is the visual caption head and designer for several award winning high schools in BOA and WBA, as well as independent non-profit organizations in DCI and WGI. He is currently pursuing a degree in instrumental music education at California State University Fresno and hopes to become a high school band director after completing his teaching credential. Cameron is heavily involved in both the worlds of winds and percussion and has performed with groups such as Red Wave Indoor, the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band, Wind Symphony of Clovis, and Fresno State Wind Orchestra. He is a music educator with the Lemoore Union Elementary School District teaching 4th-8th grade instrumental music, and has served in multiple locations as a visual designer, choreographer, consultant, and instructor in the Kings, Tulare, and Fresno counties. He has also served as a parade drum major clinician in the Central Valley, and was on the drum major staff for the United Spirit Association in the early 2000s. Marcus attended California State University (Fresno) as a saxophonist, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in music education - during which time, he served as a drum major for the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band (2002, 2003, 2004), and for Fever Drum and Bugle Corps of Modesto (2005). He continued on to Fresno Pacific University where he earned his single-subject teaching credential, as well as his master’s degree in teaching. While there, they were apart of an intensive studio studying concert and indoor percussion. Gabriella traveled and preformed in World Championships for indoor percussion, FMCMEA, Reno Jazz Festival, and FOOSA. They also studied with percussion directors Joseph Avery and Micheal Downing. Gabriella has been apart of Red Wave for the years 2019-2021 playing marimba and xylophone. They currently teach at high schools in the central valley including Buchanan High School, Alta Sierra Middle School, and Hanford West High School. Receiving his degree in Music Education from California State University, Fresno, he is an alum of the Bulldog Marching Band, Red Wave’s parent program. Joseph is currently the Associate Director of Bands for Buchanan Educational Center, which includes Buchanan High School and Alta Sierra Intermediate (Clovis, CA.). He began his marching career in the soprano line of the Concord Blue Devil B Corps in 1989, moving to the World Champion A Corps in 1991 through 1993. He returned to the Blue Team in 1997 where he is currently a visual instructor and drill writer. His affinity for mathematical problems can be traced through his BS from Fresno State in Math. Jaime earned a teaching credential from Cal State Hayward and was a math teacher at James Logan High School before he decided to give it up for the fame and fortune of drill writing. Jaime is the visual caption head and designer for several award winning high schools in BOA and WBA, as well as independent non-profit organizations in DCI and WGI. Cameron is heavily involved in both the worlds of winds and percussion and has performed with groups such as Red Wave Indoor, the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band, Wind Symphony of Clovis, and Fresno State Wind Orchestra. He is a music educator with the Lemoore Union Elementary School District teaching 4th-8th grade instrumental music, and has served in multiple locations as a visual designer, choreographer, consultant, and instructor in the Kings, Tulare, and Fresno counties. He has also served as a parade drum major clinician in the Central Valley, and was on the drum major staff for the United Spirit Association in the early 2000s. Marcus attended California State University (Fresno) as a saxophonist, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in music education - during which time, he served as a drum major for the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band (2002, 2003, 2004), and for Fever Drum and Bugle Corps of Modesto (2005). He continued on to Fresno Pacific University where he earned his single-subject teaching credential, as well as his master’s degree in teaching. In addition to his involvement in the marching arts, Marcus serves as the Director of Communication and Social Media at South Valley Community Church in Lemoore. His marching experience has taken him all across the state of California, performing with BDB (2018), Red Wave Indoor (2019), and RCC Indoor (2020, 2022). He also became a member of the Blue Devils for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Over the past few years, Bryan has worked with various programs in his hometown of Visalia. Most recently, he’s been primarily involved with Clovis West High School (Fresno, CA) and Thesis Indoor, another independent percussion ensemble based in the bay area. He also works on the side as a freelance Battery Arranger, pushing creativity through his chaotic concepts. He graduated from Clovis High School in 2015 and was part of their top ensembles in both concert and marching seasons, and then joined the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band. He has taught multiple programs in the Fresno Unified and Visalia Unified School Districts since 2015. He also provides private online lessons to students around the country. When Marc played snare drum in 2015, the Clovis High School Winter Percussion (World Line) went to Dayton, Ohio to compete in its very first WGI World Championships. After graduating, he marched with Fresno State BMB in 2016 and 2017. During the indoor season of 2016, Marc marched snare drum for Valley Independent Percussion and competed in Dayton, Ohio Open Class Championships. After VIP 2016, he marched a World Class DCI tour with Pacific Crest Drum & Bugle corps with Pete Lucero as Caption Head, Darren S. VanDerpoel, Brandon Gedalje, Matt Ponce, and Joey Staab as battery manager and snare techs. In 2017 Marc was offered a spot in the Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps as a member of the snareline, and completed a full DCI tour. Besides marching, Ray has been teaching various middle school and high schools in the central valley since 2012. Cameron is heavily involved in both the worlds of winds and percussion and has performed with groups such as Red Wave Indoor, the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band, Wind Symphony of Clovis, and the Fresno State Wind Orchestra. Cameron currently instructs as the visual caption head at the Clovis High School Golden Cougar Marching Band and cymbal tech of the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band. He has also instructed at a variety of other competitive Central Valley music programs such as Clovis North Educational Center and Buchanan High School. He is a music educator with the Lemoore Union Elementary School District teaching 4th-8th grade instrumental music, and has served in multiple locations as a visual designer, choreographer, consultant, and instructor in the Kings, Tulare, and Fresno counties. He has also served as a parade drum major clinician in the Central Valley, and was on the drum major staff for the United Spirit Association in the early 2000s. Marcus attended California State University (Fresno) as a saxophonist, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in music education - during which time, he served as a drum major for the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band (2002, 2003, 2004), and for Fever Drum and Bugle Corps of Modesto (2005). He continued on to Fresno Pacific University where he earned his single-subject teaching credential, as well as his master’s degree in teaching. In addition to his involvement in the marching arts, Marcus serves as the Director of Communication and Social Media at South Valley Community Church in Lemoore. Marcus has been married to his wife, Deanna, for four years, and they have a lovely daughter, Adelina (Addy). After graduating from Hallmark Charter School in Sanger, CA, Kyah attended CSU Fresno where they participated in The Bulldog Marching Band and Red Wave Indoor. In each of their first two years of existence, the Firebaugh Indoor Percussion placed in the top three at SVWAA’s Regional A class and earned a championship banner at SCCi in 2023. Before beginning his professional career, José was an active performer, marching with Bulldog Marching Band, the Sacramento Mandarins Drum & Bugle Corps, and POW Percussion, as well as performing with notable Fresno State ensembles including the Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, and most recently the Wind Symphony of Clovis. He has served as an instructor, arranger, and director for multiple groups around California, including World Champion Clovis East to name a few. Mark has been adjudicating field and indoor percussion through the Western United States since 2005 and serves as the judges coordinator for a handful of circuits throughout California. In addition to his pageantry endeavors, Mark has an extensive career in Educational Technology. He served as a Technology Coordinator for Fresno County (as well as Google Innovator and Apple Distinguished Educator) and left the county to be Co-Founder of Breakout EDU, an educational gaming solution for schools. He has served on numerous instructional teams as a drill designer, program coordinator, and director of groups throughout the state of California including Beyer High School in the early 2000’s, Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets & Winter Percussion, and was the founding Director of Frente, an independent color guard at Fresno State. Previously, Ben majored in music education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Lamar University, with a primary focus in Percussion. Ben has over two decades of world-class experience as a performer, designer, and instructor, with the Glassmen, Bluecoats, Crossmen, Spirit of Atlanta, Colts, and Sacramento Mandarins Drum & Bugle Corps. Ben currently serves as the battery instructor at Ronald Reagan High School, and Music Designer for Monarch Independent. He has received his B.S. in Business Administration - Computer Information Systems from California State University, Fresno. Outside of the marching arts, Albert focuses on community management and social media engagement. He is also currently working at Universal Audio full-time as a Technical Customer Support Specialist. In the marching arts, he is a front ensemble caption head, arranger and electronic designer for Clovis High School. In addition, he is the front ensemble arranger for the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band, along with being the front ensemble arranger and sound designer Red Wave Indoor, Fresno State's independent world percussion ensemble in the Central Valley. He continues to write for various ensembles in the Central Valley, along with being a consultant specializing in amplification, electronics, and sound design for the marching arts. Over the past 25 years, Dr. Cornelison has been a full-time music educator in the academic world, as well as immersing himself in the commercial world of classical acoustic composition and digital music production. Dr. Cornelison holds an earned Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Composition, Music Theory, and Electro-Acoustic Music from the University of Arizona; a Master of Music degree in Music Composition and Music Theory from Central Michigan University; and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from California State University, Fresno. Although music for the concert hall has been his primary focus, Dr. Cornelison also composes and creates electronic music and sound effects for app video games, live LED entertainment shows, and firework displays throughout the United States. The most current recordings of Dr. Cornelison’s acoustic music were released in Tokyo on the duo recordings of Jonathan Wintringham and Kuninobu Bando.
